| It was time. . . Twelve years. That was how long Namine had lived in Rustboro City. On her twelfth birthday she had left home with her Poochyena to try and prove to her father she could become great like he was. He didn't believe in her. It didn't matter though, she would try until she was the best in his eyes. Only a week after Namine had left, she received news that her father was dead. She returned home for the funeral. He was gone. She had been unable to prove herself to him. Even though she had tried, she wasn't fast enough. Time was what she had lost when she grieved with her mother. Instead of working harder, she cried about not showing her father he was wrong. After thinking about things, she could still feel his hard eyes looking over her shoulder, breathing down her neck. He was still watching her every move. -- "Hey mom I'm heading out!" Namine called out over her shoulder as she stepped outside. A smile occupied her face and the setting sun light up her eyes so they were right in between light and dark blue. Beside her was a small dog like pokemon, her Poochyena. The two had only been together for a little over a week, but it felt like it had been a lifetime. Like her father had always said, 'A bond between a pokemon and its trainer is unbreakable no matter how long the two have been together'. She didn't know just how right he was until Poochyena had come along. Dad. . . . . Namine thought to herself as she jogged towards the Academy. She hadn't even had the chance to say goodbye. The last time they had even spoke was the day before she left to travel. Although what he had said was cruel, it made her want to try ten times harder than she already was. 'You're not good enough.' The words had stung, but she didn't spend her time crying about it. When Namine reached the Academy she looked down at Poochyena and explained her actions, "He wanted to see me once more before I actually left." 'He' was her teacher, the man that from the moment she started the Academy told her that she could do it. There were actually lots of people who believed she could do it, but none of them were her father. -----Half and Hour Later----- "Yes sir! I'll be sure to tell her. Thank you! Bye!" Her head was turned to face her teacher as she walked out. It would hopefully be the last time she would get to see him for awhile. She wanted to explore and travel some before she started head on with the Gym battles. Besides, she knew that Roxanne was tough. Sure people had beaten her before, but those people weren't Namine. She had faith in herself though. "Alright Poochyena! We're all packed up at home, so whaddya say we go watch the sunset? The last one before we actually head out!" The pokemon barked in response and the two began to run towards a clear spot where they could watch the sun set. After about ten minutes into the sunset, someone was approaching. Curious, Namine turned around to see who it was. "Hi there!" Her head tilted to the side. "Wanna come join us?" She asked with a smile. | |

| "Whismur..." the pokemon replied timidly, taking a calm step forward and raising its small ears up in shock. It had very weak ears and your voice had frightened it, like many people before then. It perked up its ears and let out a very shrill cry, yelling and screeching because of this. Because of how it breathed through its ears, it took a shocking jump backwards, cowering a little behind a log. | |

| Realizing that it was a pokemon that she had just spoken too, Namine softened up more when it took a step foreward. She quickly pulled her pokedex out of her bag and waited for it to analyze the pokemon.
Normally, WHISMUR's voice is very quiet - it is barely audible even if one is paying close attention. However, if this POKéMON senses danger, it starts crying at an earsplitting volume.
Huh, Namine thought to herself as she looked back up at the Whismur. Just as she closed her pokedex, the pokemon let out a shrill cry. She shuddered and pulled her shoulders up into a shrugged position. It didn't help with how loud it was, but it made it seem like it. Just when she had thought the creatures crying was done, it began to yell and shriek again.
"It's alright. You're fine. I'm a friend," Namine said, trying to soothe the Whismur. The poor thing had hidden behind a log it was so frightened. Whether it was by its own screeches, or if by her it didn't matter. Now she felt it was up to her to calm the pokemon down. Standing up, she made a motion as if to tell Poochyena to stay put. By this time its ears were laying down against its head and it glared at the Whismur. Slowly, she began to walk over to the pokemon. To be honest she wasn't sure if she should catch it or if she should just try to calm it down. For now she would try to just calm it down.
When Namine reached the log she stuck her hand out. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to treat it like when she first met Poochyena or if there was something different for each pokemon. Her dad had only told her about all the amazing battles he had fought and all the tough trainers he had beaten.

| "Whis...mur?" the pokemon feebly announced, taking a short side step into the sand to the left. It's high pitched cries came to a short stop, as they first began to get softer and not so high pitched. Suddenly, it hopped up onto the log and reacted to your touch on its head with a soft and silky cry. "Whismur...." it announced lowly, bending its knees and then it's small eyes looking over you carefully.
"Whismur!" it announced playfully, quickly bending on its knees and then lunging forward from the log and towards you, taking its two stubby hands and trying to wrap them around your neck, but ultimately failing as it wrapped its two ears around your neck, giving you a make-shift hug. "Whis...whismur!"

| "Yeah. That's right, it's okay," Namine said with a smile as she petted the Whismur on the head. Its crying ceased and it spoke twice. It was up on the log when suddenly its knees began to bend, but she didn't notice it. Now her eyes were closed as she just stood there petting the pokemon.
Poochyena stood from its laying position, its ears now alert. It began to growl at the Whismur because it had sensed that something was coming next. When the Whismur lunged towards Namine, it barked and took a small leap towards the two, but was still a bit off. It didn't want to assume that the Whismur had attacked Namine, but if it had it would be ready and right there.
When Whismur jumped ontop of Nanime, she fell backwards onto the ground due to shock. She hadn't expected the pokemon to jump onto her like it had. It attempted to hug her with its little arms, but decided that it wouldn't work so instead wrapped its ears around her neck. She laughed slightly and put one of her arms around the Whismur aswell. She sat up slowly and gave a look to Poochyena, he instantly backed away with its ears lowered. Still holding the Whismur she looked at it.
"Do you want to come with us? We're leaving tomorrow to go and explore," Namine grinned as she waited for any sort of response. She wasn't sure if this was how most trainers caught their pokemon, but she doubted that it was. Next time it would be a lot more difficult, well that was if it decided to come along that easily.

| Whismur eyed Poochyena carefully, and gave a small whimper upon looking at the intimidating canine-appearing pokemon that seemed to oppose it. When Namine fell to the ground, the Whismur happily jumped on her stomach and then still whimpered in Poochyena's presences. Stepping off of the trainer, the Whismur took a few simple steps towards Poochyena and then held its ear out as a form of a handshake. Following Poochyena's action, Whismur dove forward and tapped its ear against one of Namine's pokeballs, looking at it curiously. Playing with it between its ears, it managed to hit the button on itself and the pokeball fell to the ground, red light consuming the pokemon before sucking it inside. A couple of shakes later, the Whismur was caught! Whismur SoundproofMale, Level 7 Pound, Uproar | |

| Namine watched as Whismur stepped off of her and towards Poochyena. It held it's ear out as if to shake. Poochyena analyzed it for a moment before bringing his paw up to shake the Whismur's ear. Poochyena then brought the Whismur to one of her pokeballs, she must have dropped it from when she first sat down, and seemed to nudge it towards the Whismur. It began to play with it between his ears, causing Namine to giggle, until it suddenly hit the button. The pokeball opened and Whismur disappeared in a red light. The pokeball twitched for a few second until it held still.
"Wow," Namine said, a little surprised, as she got up and picked up the pokeball, which Poochyena was sniffing. She couldn't help but think that it had been a little too easy for her to catch. It didn't matter now though, she had two pokemon. She would be able to head out and start off well. Her first concern wouldn't be trying to find a few more pokemon to train so she would be ready for her first gym battle, now it would be training the two she had.
"Well Poochyena, looks like tomorrow we're starting out with a new friend." Namine smiled at her Poochyena. The day was finally coming, the day she would finally leave home.
